I am not a fearful person. I am not uncomfortable sending my children to school today, after what happened on Friday. I will send them off to their teachers with a smile on my face, and with a prayer in my heart, as I do every day.
And oh, their teachers. We are so blessed to have kind, committed, smart teachers for our boys. And my heart goes out to them this morning. How hard must it be for them today? They must prepare for the inevitable questions from their students. They must prepare for the inevitable mass emails and staff meetings and lockdown drills that will come in the wake of the Newtown tragedy. They must overcome their own fears as they arrive at work. And then, they must carry on, and love and care for and teach our babies, on top of it all.
Their job is never easy. They are never compensated enough for what they do. But they do it, anyway, with a smile on their face.
Today, let’s make sure we thank them for who they are and what they do.
